Some Reminders as school starts

 Hi Everyone!

We had a fantastic turnout at last night's Food Truck event.  It was nice to meet you at our sign-up table.  See below for a summary of the things we discussed last night:

*  All athletes need a DIAA sports physical dated AFTER 4/1/22 in order to practice.  The Wellness Center at BHS is taking appointments.  You must first register to be a member of the Wellness Center.  Information can be found at the link HERE.  If the wait at the Wellness Center is too long, try the Silverside Walk-In Clinic.  No appointment is necessary.  Have your DIAA paperwork filled out before you arrive. Click HERE for their website. You can print out the DIAA FORMS HERE.

*   Please download the Remind app to your phones.  We use this for announcements and to let you know when this blog has been updated. See below on instructions on how to join our group.  This is for parents and athletes.

Send a Text to 81010/ Text this message: @ehe834

*  Every athlete should have a new pair of running shoes to start the season.  If you need to purchase new running shoes for the season, visit the Delaware Running Company.  They have the best selection around and are staffed by knowledgeable runners.  They also offer discounts to high school runners.  Be sure to tell them you run XC for BHS.  Click HERE for  store location and hours. It's recommended that shoes be replaced every 300 miles.  So if you're still running in last season's shoes, it's time for a new pair!

*  We will NOT be bringing a big water jug to practices.  Please make sure you bring your own water.  I recommend purchasing a 32 ounce bottle.  Marshalls and TJMAXX have Hydrapeaks (similar to the coveted Hydroflasks) for less than $20.

*  When we practice after school at Bellevue State Park or Brandywine Creek State park, the bus will take athletes to the park but there is NO RETURN BUS.  Parents must pick up athletes at the park.  Please use the Remind App to  let us know if your athlete will need to carpool back to the school.  We will try to make arrangements with other parents/coaches who could drop off at school when needed.

Week Two: BHSXC

 Hi Everyone!

We had a great first week of preseason.  I cannot remember when we have had better weather. Just a few reminders before we head in to our second week:

*  Recruit.  Recruit.  Recruit.  We especially need more girls!

Uniform Shorts:  Every athlete needs a solid black pair of running shorts to wear in competitions.  These need to be purchased before our first meet on 9/10/22.

*  Please remember to bring a  water bottle and towel to practice every day.  We also recommend that athletes purchase a Foam Roller.  You can find them at Amazon, Five Below, Marshall's, or TJMaxx.

*  We will be setting up a table at the Block Party.  Please wear a BHSXC shirt if you have one and help recruit.  Info is below:

BHSXC Preseason Information

 Hi everyone!

XC preseason is right around the corner!  See below for our practice times and locations.  Keep in mind, that the state parks charge a daily entry fee.  If you don't have a state park pass, I recommend purchasing one for the season.  Click HERE for more information.

We will NOT be bringing a big water jug to practices.  Please make sure you bring your own water.  I recommend purchasing a 32 ounce bottle.  Marshalls and TJMAXX have Hydrapeaks (similar to the coveted Hydroflasks) for less than $20.

Finally, you MUST turn in your DIAA physical to the nurse before 8/15.  You cannot practice until the paperwork is turned in, so please, please, please take care of this ASAP.  See previous post for Wellness Center hours and other clinics where you can get your physical.

Monday  through Friday 8/15-8/19:  BELLEVUE State Park 8AM-9:45 AM

We meet by the picnic tables next to the track (near the bathrooms)

Saturday 8/20:  BELLEVUE  8AM-9:45 AM  THIS IS A CHANGE

Sunday 8/22:  No Practice

Monday through Friday 8/22-8/26:  BELLEVUE State Park 8AM-9:45 AM

Saturday 8/27:  Brandywine Creek State Park 8AM-9:45 AM

Use the main entrance off of Adams Dam Road.  If using GPS, the address is 41 Adams Dam Road. Make the first right after passing toll booth (Hawk Watch parking lot).  We will meet near the picnic tables.

Sunday 8/28:  No Practice

I know that some of you will be away during part of preseason.  Please send me a message through the Remind app to remind me :)

Looking ahead, the Brandywine School District is once again experiencing a shortage of bus drivers.  We have received word that our pick up time for practices and meets will be no earlier than 5:30 PM.  Rather than have kids wait at the State Parks for the bus, we may look into having the bus DROP off only for practices and have parents pick up at the Park.  On meet days, we will schedule a return pick-up.  For those few athletes who may need to be transported back to school, we will look to arrange carpools with other families or coaches. Had I won the recent billion dollar MegaMillions, I had plans to purchase our own private XC bus, but alas that did not happen :)

Please reach out if you have any questions!
