End of the day

Our State Championship Meet is this Saturday! I really do feel like somebody pressed the "fast-forward" button on this season!

We had a great day Saturday at the New Castle County Championhips! It was a BEAUTIFUL day at Winterthur! Congrats to Chanon Tuntivate who grabbed All County Honors!

We had a nice turnout in our Old Timers Race: Mr. McCoy, Mr. Holler, Mr. Streck, & Allie Gedney joined me on the starting line. Hopefully next year, they will move the start time so more of you can watch us run :) Half the fun of running the old timers' race is hearing your words of encouragement.

This week's practice schedule is below:

Monday: Bellevue
Tuesday: School
Wednesday: Killens (more info to follow)
Thursday: Bellevue
Friday: Bellevue

Saturday: Delaware State Championship Meet at Killens Pond State Park in Felton, DE

Division II Girls at 1:00 p.m.
Division I Girls at 1:40 p.m.
Division II Boys at 2:20 p.m.
Division I Boys at 3:00 p.m.

Bus departure time will be posted later in the week.

We can only run our Top 7 runners in the State Meet; however, we would LOVE to have the JV join us at practice this week. We also expect you all to come down to Killens Pond and cheer on your teammates on Saturday!

Have a great Week!

Coach Flanagan :)

October 4-October 10, 2009

(girls varsity all smiles before their race)

(Aidan & Bud in the last mile)

(Keith, Drew, & Brandon in the last half mile)

Time flies when you are having fun! I cannot believe October is upon us! Now if we could just get some cool, crisp, cross country weather, we'd be all set!

Despite the unseasonably warm weather on Saturday, we had some fine performances at the Sallies Invitational. The bulldogs ran in SIX races giving parents and coaches quite a workout running from spot to spot :) In the future, I hope more of you will stay around and cheer on your teammates after you run. There were only a handful of bulldogs left when the boys varsity toed the line at 4:20. It would also be nice to have more help cleaning up the mess you left behind :)

There are some changes to this week's schedule:
Monday 10/5: BELLEVUE

Tuesday 10/6: School

Wednesday 10/7: Concord/Middletown at BELLEVUE: bus leaves BHS at 2:30PM

Saturday 10/10: Manhattan Invitational/ Bus leaves BHS at 5:30! Please arrive by 5:20 so we can take roll before boarding the bus (more details to follow later this week)

Bulldog Notes:
** I noticed many parents are snapping pictures at our meets. It would be wonderful if you could burn them onto a disc so I can use them for our end of season slide show.

** LOST & FOUND: These look familiar? It's a good thing I had my wagon, so I could haul away all the things you left behind on Saturday!

Thursday Reminders

girls at the starting line

Hi Everyone!
After our never ending bus ride yesterday, both the boys' and girls' teams swept the competition at White Clay Creek! Since we were late in arriving, the photographer will come back on another day to take our team and individual pictures.

Tomorrow is the Middletown Invitational held at Lums Pond. Directions to the park can be found below:

http://www.destateparks.com/park/lums-pond/

The cross country course begins and ends in Area 5. Enter the park via the Main Entrance. Continue down the road until the end and bear right. There will be a large parking area. The two white poles are the start of the XC course.

The Varsity runners are listed below. Everyone else will be running in the Junior Varsity races.

Time Schedule:
3:30 girls J.V.
4:00 Boys J.V.
4:30 Girls Varsity: Maeve, Amanda, Allison, Ellen, Alison, Becca, Madeleine
5:00 Boys Varsity: Matt, Chanon, Mike L, Sam, Aidan, Mike S., Bill

Finally, there was a great article in yesterday's sports section about long time cross country coach, Joe O'Neill from St. Marks. Joe passed away this spring after battling cancer. An excerpt from the article is below. I believe it sums up what make XC such a unique sport:

A camaraderie exists between competitors and opposing teams in cross country that no other sport has. It is born of a shared understanding of the physical and mental anguish required to excel, and the tremendous satisfaction one draws from enduring those tests and making even modest improvements. When it comes right down to it, each distance runner is only truly competing against himself or herself, attempting to wring every drop of endurance left, when it seems there is none left.

Friday the bus leaves at 1:15PM with a1:00PM dismissal.

Please read yesterday's blog entry for the rest of the schedule.

Take care!

Coach Flanagan :)
