BHSXC Week Three: UPDATED

 Hi Everyone!

You made it through the first two weeks of Cross Country!  With school starting on Monday, there's a lot of information to pass on to you, so please read until the end of this post.

Transportation to Practices and Meets

The school provides a bus to and from our practices and meets.  The bus will drop students back off at Brandywine and parents pick up at the school.  Parents may also pick up athletes from the park if that is easier; however, they must arrive before the bus departs. We will not leave any kids at the park. There are also Activity buses available once we arrive back at BHS.  Click HERE for the bus stops.     If athletes drive themselves to school, they are permitted to drive themselves and siblings to practice. All other athletes must be on the bus.  For meets, all athletes are required to ride the bus. Please refer to previous post for information on purchasing State park passes.

Uniforms

We will be issuing a Uniform Top to every runner.  Athletes will need to purchase a solid black pair of running shorts before our first meet.  You can find them at Dicks, the Delaware Running Company, Marshalls, TJMAXX, or Kohls to name a few.

Regular meets vs. Invitationals

Our meet schedule is listed on Bulldog Sports. Click HERE  to view our upcoming meets.  For the small meets during the week, all athletes will participate.  Some will be racing the full 5K; others will be running a modified shorter course until they are able to finish a 5K.  For the bigger meets/Invitationals, we will not be entering athletes until they are able to complete the full distance of the race.  We will be competing in four Invitationals this season:  Unionville Two Mile Bash, Middletown Invitational, Salesianum Invitational, and the Joe O'Neill Invitational.  Our season winds down with our three championship meets:  The Blue Hen Conference Championships, The New Castle County Championships, and The DIAA State Championships.

COVID Protocol

All athletes must wear masks on buses to and from practices and meets. Masks must completely cover nose and mouth.

The BSD is following CDC protocols for Covid exposure.

If athlete is directly exposed to covid and are vaccinated- Individual does not have to quarantine, but must wear a mask indoors and get tested on Day 5(DPH is recommending day 5)   After day 5, individual must still wear a mask when in the school building, but not necessarily in other settings outside of education. Provide the school nurse with documentation of vaccination record.

Click HERE for a more detailed explanation of BSD covid protocol.

B+ 5K:  October 30, 2021
We will be participating in the B+ 5K again this year as part of our Community Service.  We encourage all athletes to sign up and fundraise for this great cause fighting Childhood Cancer.  The race is the day after our Blue Hen Conference Championships and we will be using this as a recovery run/walk.  Our own Teyton Pressley is a B+ Hero.  Click HERE to sign up to be a part of Team Teyton.  If you are not familiar with the B+ Foundation, Click HERE to read about their mission.

Preseason Schedule

 Hi everyone!

XC preseason is right around the corner!  See below for our practice times and locations.  Keep in mind, that the state parks charge a daily entry fee.  If you don't have a state park pass, I recommend purchasing one for the season.  Click HERE for more information.

We will NOT be bringing the big water jug to practices.  Please make sure you bring your own water.  I recommend purchasing a 32 ounce bottle.  Marshalls and TJMAXX have Hydrapeaks (similar to the coveted Hydroflasks) for less than $20.

If you need to purchase new running shoes for the season, visit the Delaware Running Company.  They have the best selection around and are staffed by knowledgeable runners.  They also offer discounts to high school runners.  Be sure to tell them you run XC for BHS.  Click HERE for  store location and hours. It's recommended that shoes be replaced every 300 miles.  So if you're still running in last year's shoes, it's time for a new pair!

Finally, you MUST turn in your DIAA physical to the nurse before 8/16.  You cannot practice until the paperwork is turned in, so please, please, please take care of this ASAP.

NO PRACTICE MONDAY 8/16.  If you need to turn in your physical, you can do so at the Breezeway at BHS from 8-9:30.

TUESDAY  through Friday 8/17-8/20:  BELLEVUE 8AM-9:45 AM

We meet by the picnic tables next to the track (near the bathrooms)

Saturday 8/21Brandywine Creek State Park 8AM-9:45 AM

Use the main entrance off of Adams Dam Road.  If using GPS, the address is 41 Adams Dam Road. Make the first right after passing toll booth (Hawk Watch parking lot).  We will meet near the picnic tables.

Summer Training BHSXC21

 Hi Everyone.

It was nice to see many of you at our interest meeting.  If you haven't done so already, please download the Remind app to your phones.  We use this for announcements and to let you know when this blog has been updated. See below on instructions on how to join our group.  This is for parents and athletes.

As I mentioned at the meeting, you must turn in your physical to the BHS nurse BEFORE the first day of preseason.  The Wellness Center will be open throughout the summer.  Click HERE for more information and to find a link to the DIAA forms (forms are on the bottom left hand of page).

State parks are great places to run in the summer.  Lots of trails and shade.  Please keep in mind that there is a fee to enter the parks.  The fee season runs through November so you may want to purchase a pass for your vehicle.  Click HERE for information or visit any park office.

Summer Training

Click HERE for the mileage guide for summer training.

The Captains will be organizing some runs this summer.  I will send out info to the group once they settle on times and locations.

First Day of Practice:  Monday August 16th 8AM at Bellevue State Park.  We meet by the  picnic tables next to the track.

State Meet Final Instructions

 Hi Everyone.

We made it to States!  This has certainly been a season to remember and hopefully, we will all look back at this one day and maybe smile at the craziness.

I announced the other day that Killen's Pond is CLOSED to the public on Saturday.  Most of the team will be traveling to the park on the bus.  For those who are arriving separately, they will allow you to drop off athletes to the staging area and then exit the park.  Make sure you tell them you are Division 2. You should drop off near start/finish.  All Division One traffic will be directed to Water Park.

The meet is being Live Streamed through NFHS.  I'm not sure how they live stream 3.1 miles, but I'm guessing you will be able to see the Start and Finish.  Click HERE for the link.  There is a fee to watch the live stream.   I'm hoping to take lots of pics and will share them with you as well.

In true 2020 fashion, we are looking at a possibly wet and windy day.  Please, please, please come prepared.  See below for my suggestions:

1.  At least TWO pairs of running shoes.  You should not be warming up in the shoes that you will wear for the race.  You may even want to pack a third pair of slippers/slides for the bus ride home

2.  EXTRA socks!!!!  A pair to warm-up in/ A pair to RACE in (preferably our mismatched ones)/ A pair to put on after

3.  Layers:  One of them must be water resistant.  My suggestions:  Uniform Top. Long Sleeved BHSXC tee. Sweatshirt.  BHSXC windbreaker.  Tights. Sweatpants.  Another pair of sweatpants or pajama pants for ride home. Blanket.  Umbrella.

4.  Food:  There will be NO CONCESSIONS.  We will bring a case of Gatorade, the same granola bars I've been bringing all season, and bananas.  Please pack anything else you may need.

5.  MASKS.  Bring at least TWO.  Three is better.  You must wear a mask at all times except while racing.  And since your mask will most likely get wet, you will definitely want a dry one for the ride home.

6.  Towels:  Bring at least TWO.

7.  Garbage bag:  to put all your wet gear in after the race.

**And perhaps if we come thoroughly prepared for All Kinds of Weather and Circumstances, The SUN WILL SHINE instead.

Please arrive at BHS no later than 7:20 for Covid Screening.  Bus will depart at 7:30 sharp.

Our Wave Assignments are below:

The Division 2 Girls race goes off at 10:30.  Our Boys run at 12:00.

We are hoping to be back on the bus and headed home by 1:15 at the latest.

That's All for Now!  Rest up today.  Fuel your bodies.  Hydrate.  Visualize your BEST RACE.

See you all in the morning!!!!  Any questions or concerns, please message me through the Remind App.

Go Bulldogs!!!!!
