DIAA State XC Championships

Hi Everyone!
The time schedule for the State Meet is below.  There is NO bus to Brandywine Creek.  Varsity Girls should arrive by 11:30. Varsity boys must report to the Creek no later than NOON.  We would like to see the ENTIRE TEAM at the meet to support BHSXC!  There will be traffic entering the park so please plan accordingly.

Division II Girls at 1:00 pm

Admission Policy

       I just confirmed with the DIAA director that there will NOT be an additional charge to enter the park.  The park will still charge their $3 fee if you do not have a state park sticker.

There is NO bus to the County meet. Athletes must arrive at least ONE hour before their scheduled race. If any parents are running the Old Timers race please let me know and I'll get you a BHS jersey to wear :)

PARKING/ GENERAL INFORMATION FOR SATURDAY

General Admission Parking is free. Please enter Gate 3 located on Rt. 52. Please note it is a country walk over hilly terrain to the team staging area.

Handicap Parking - Those displaying state-issued Handicap Parking credentials should enter Gate 5.

Preferred Parking is available for $10 per car. Preferred Parking will enter Gate 5 off Rt. 52 and be located near the team staging area. Special hang tag will be sold in advance. Anyone not displaying this hang tag will not be permitted into this parking area and will be directed to the general admission parking. Hang tags will be distributed to coaches on your assigned practice day. Proceeds from Preferred Parking go to N5CTA.
I will have Preferred Parking Passes for sale at Friday's Practice.

NO DOGS WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE GROUNDS.

There will be t-shirts and concessions.

The Joe O'Neill Invitational is Friday October 19th.  We are collecting gatorade and water to sell in the concessions stand.  Please drop off cases at the end of practice this week and next.  Click on the link at the top of this page, to sign up to help that day. 

Brandywine has just taken over hosting the Blue Hen Conference Championships on Thursday October 25th.  The meet will be held at Bellevue with races starting at 3PM.  This is another opportunity for our team to raise money with t-shirt sales and concessions.  We will be posting more details next week.

Hi Everyone,
Due to the strong storms in this afternoon's forecast, our meet is postponed until tomorrow.  Start time is the same:  3:30 PM.  There will be a 1:45 dismissal for athletes and the bus will leave BHS at 2PM.  There is NO return bus back to school.  Parents, please pick up at Bellevue after the meet.  Juniors and Seniors who drive to school may drive themselves to the meet.

There is NO practice this afternoon.

Directions from Brandywine High School- Exit BHS and make a left onto Foulk Road. Make a left onto Shipley road. Follow Shipley road to Washington Street extension and continue straight through this intersection. Follow road for about half mile. Turn left at Mahaffy Drive ( Small sign on left, better to look for blue sign on right, but do not turn right) . Continue up Mahaffy Drive and make a right at T-intersection. Follow road until four way intersection and make a left onto South Lynn Drive. My house is straight ahead with a large tree in front and a white garage. Park anywhere in the cul-de-sac.

Pool Party at Graylyn Crest Pool 5-8

The pool is located on Marsh Road between Silverside and Harvey.  It's just past Branmar Plaza on the left  hand side.  If you are coming from Harvey Rd. the pool is about half a mile from Papa Johns on the right.  Please bring $5 to cover swimming and pizza.  It's supposed to be a scorcher tomorrow...high of 91!

Saturday and Sunday:  NO PRACTICE ....run on your own.  This is a good opportunity to get in a nice LONG RUN :)


Monday September 3:  9AM Bellevue. 

We realize many of you will be out of town for the holiday weekend.  Please make sure you  pack your running shoes and put some miles in on your own.

The Banning 5K course is fast and runs over 99.5% grass and dirt. Spikes are recommended. It is well marked and is a superb spectator course that has the runners in plain eye sight for 70% of the race.

Boys ~ 3:45 pm

Girls ~ 4:20 pm

Middle School Boys ~ 5:00 pm

Middle School Girls ~ 5:30 pm



Week of August 27th

Hi Everyone!
A big THANK YOU for all your efforts at Saturday's Car Wash.  It was nice to meet so many parents, grandparents, neighbors, etc!  We made $420 in 3 hours!

This week's schedule is listed in the previous post.  There are storms in the forecast for the next two days.  Any cancellations or change in plans will be announced in school and posted here on the blog.

Preseason Updates

Hi Everyone,
I've had a few questions about next week's schedule so I thought I would post an early update:

Thursday 8/23:  Bellevue 6PM
Friday     8/24:  Bellevue 6PM
Saturday 8/25:  CARWASH at the EXXON at the corner of Foulk and Silverside.  Please arrive by 8:45 so we can set up and be ready to wash cars by 9AM.  Bring buckets and sponges.  Pack a snack and drink. Remember, no bathing suits!  We will wash cars until 12 or 1PM.  Parents are welcome to join in the fun :)

Sunday 8/26:  No Practice....a nice relaxing LONG run is recommended.

Monday 8/27:  Brandywine Creek 3:00-4:30  Freshmen, please meet at the side of the gym by 2:40.  Coaches will drive you to practice.  You can get changed in the locker rooms at the back of the gym.

Tuesday 8/28:  Bellevue  A school bus will pick you up at the side of the gym by 2:40.  Be changed and ready to go!  There is no return bus to school.  Parents, please pick up athletes at the park after practice at 4:45.

Wednesday 8/29:  SCHOOL:  Be dressed in practice clothes and on the track by 2:45 :)

Thursday 8/30:  Scrimmage for Cancer at Banning Park.  I will post race schedule at a later date.

Friday 8/31:  Bellevue 9:00 AM.....POOL PARTY at Graylyn Crest Pool 5-8PM.  Cost is $5 (covers cost of swimming and pizza)

First Day of Practice!

Hi Everyone!
Our first practice is scheduled to begin at 6PM tonight at Bellevue State Park.  We will meet by the bathrooms next to the track.

There are thunderstorms in the forecast.  We follow the DIAA policy regarding lightning and we will NOT practice in the event of a thunderstorm.  Please use your best judgement when heading out.

If you have not turned in your physical to the nurse at BHS, please bring it with you tonight.  You cannot practice without a current physical on file at the school (dated after April 1, 2012).

Get those Physicals!

Hi Everyone!
Just a Reminder...All athletes MUST have a current sports physical (dated AFTER April 1, 2012)  on file at BHS before the first day of practice.  The Wellness Center at BHS is open now (see May 21st post  for hours and info). 

Athletes can also get a sports physical at the Brandywine Medical Center (near Target).  Cost is $25.  Have immunizaton records and all paperwork filled out.  Appointment is not needed.

We have less than two weeks until the start of Preseason.  If you would like to join your teammates for a run, our summer schedule is HERE

We look forward to seeing everyone on August 15, 6PM at Bellevue State Park.  We  will meet by the picnic tables near the bathrooms/track.  All cars will be required to pay the park entrance fee if you do not have a state park sticker.  The Fee Season extends until the end of November so I suggest that all families purchase a sticker.  Cost is $27.  You can purchase them at any state park.  Click HERE for more info.

Excessive Heat Warning

Due to the excessive heat warning  for Wednesday June 20th, we will NOT be running on the trails.  If you are going to run, please do so EARLY in the day before the temperature climbs into the 90's. 

It would be a good day to hit the pool for some laps or the gym for some cross training!

Summer Running 2012

Hi Everyone!
It's time to start planning your summer workouts.  Click HERE for your summer mileage guidelines.

Below is a list of opportunites for you to run with a group:

Mondays:  Meet at Springer Jr. High at 6:45 for warm-up.  Workout starts promptly at 7PM.  Joe McNichol will be leading the workouts again this summer. 

Wednesdays:  Trail Run with the Bulldogs.  Meet at 6PM at Woodley Park (across the street from the YMCA on Mt. Lebanon Road)

Sundays:  MORNING Trail Runs with the Bulldogs:  Meet at 9AM  at State Park parking lot at the bottom of Mt. Lebanon Road (make a right at bottom of hill and a right into parking log.  State Park sticker required and parking is limited.  Carpooling is recommended)

Not all Sunday/Wednesday trail runs will have adult supervision.  Captains will be present to take roll :)
We encourage you to run a minimum of 5 days a week with two days of active rest.
